I've got a marathon on the brain

Did you hear about that poor man that died while running in the Chicago Marathon? The Chicago race people are getting slammed for not having enough water out on the course. I guess it was unusually hot over the weekend, and they just weren't prepared. The man didn't die because of the heat though, something was wrong with his heart. But that's terrible. You hear about people just falling over dead one day because their heart had something wrong with it and they didn't even know. (I think his mitral valve wasn't working right) It makes me want to go get my heart tested-just in case. Maybe I'll go back to that insta-care place...where I spent $100 just to be told I had the flu. They already think I'm a little...desperate?!! :)

So last week, I went to go register for the Houston half marathon only to find it was already sold out!! They had already increased the number of participants by 2000! I think they have sold out for the last 2 years! Good grief. Houston is a good race, it's flat and people run fast here. People like to "use" our Houston race as a qualifier for other "bigger" more "important" races. What about us little locals that just wanted to run it...we have no dreams of winning it?? The funny thing is, I don't know of very many people who actually got signed up. I do know of a few people, don't get me wrong, but I've talked to plenty that didn't get in...just like me. My husband told his running club they had better sign up, it was filling up...but did he tell me??? NO. He didn't sign up himself, ooops! I had no idea. Here I thought I was being all kinds of PRE-pared! Not! Oh well. Maybe I'll run the Austin 1/2. That's a fun race too. That has sentimental value because that was my first race, way back when. But I better decide and get registered quick!!

Good for you Heather. You really do inspire me. I think of you when I do some good exercising. I was happy to find out that Wii bowling burns 280 calories per hour. I whooped up on Ryan last night. I love that wii! Heehee Hayley you are funny.

Darn...I guess that is the reason I won't be running the half:) Now I have a good one - they are sold out. Not, I just don't feel like training for it! What is Austin like? Is it really hilly? Is that a stupid question? Am I crazy, or does 88 degrees not sound very hot or humid? Granted, I couldn't run 26 miles in it, but 88 degrees is pretty cool for here right?

Just for the record, I wasn't going to run a full marathon, just the half. That's enough for me right now. Jennifer, I was thinking the same thing, but I guess the race officials didn't have enough water...or cups or something out on the course, people were running into the 711 to buy water and stuff.

The Chicago story was so sad! I read it in the paper, didn't 300 people suffer from heat stroke or something?
Des Moines held their Susan G. Komen marathon this weekend, and they ran out of water too...and it was hot! People were upset. (I of course saw them from my car, in the AC, probably eating!)

I can't believe these marathons fill up so quickly!!

I have always wanted to say I have run a marathon -- I just don't really want to DO it. Running is part of why I have feet problems -- but if you can do it, DO IT. Yay for you, Heather!

I am SO with Hayley...what is with people who willingly sign up for running and then on top of that...pay to enter it! You Crazy Girl, but go for it!

Last year Eric was too late and wrote the race director a very pointed email about how Houston is the fattest city in America and capping the race was only adding to the perception... You can guess the rest. The race director did get him in. I registered both of us about a month ago - Champions told us in August to get on it or we would be out. Should have passed it along
