How to live with 100 things.

I just read a very interesting article called How to Live With 100 Things. Do go read it. This guy, Dave Bruno, has gotten rid of all jeans except 3 pairs. He is debating going down to 2! His method is WAY too extreme for me, but I do find it all very interesting.

**"Stuff starts to overwhelm you," says Dave Bruno, 37, an online entrepreneur who looked around his San Diego home one day last summer and realized how much his family's belongings were weighing him down. Thus began what he calls the 100 Thing Challenge. (Apparently, Bruno is so averse to excess he can't refer to 100 things in the plural.) In a country where clutter has given rise not only to professional organizers but also to professional organizers with their own reality series (TLC's Clean Sweep), Bruno's online musings about his slow and steady purge have developed something of a cult following online, inspiring others to launch their own countdown to clutter-free living.**

They also quote that Peter Walsh guy from Clean Sweep. I have seen him on Oprah too. Again, way too extreme for me, but it does have me thinking about how I can do better in this area. What do you think? Could you live with 100 personnel possessions?

I have 100 things in one of my 3 closets. I do try not to purchase more "things" until I really need them. We all have too much stuff and "stuff" is saying it mildly.

I love the idea. I could never follow it, but it inspires me to try harder. It was so nice when our house was on the market and we got rid of so much and then stored half of the house to show. We realized that we didn't even need that stuff in the storage facility. I have a friend who dresses with so much flair and always looks so expensively put together (this is my college roomate Dayna). Well...her closet is so amazing. It looks like the closet of someone on vacation with the stuff from their suitcase hung up! But she buys really nice, well made, basic (and probably expensive)pieces that look great. And then when she buys something new, she usually donates something at that point. I, on the other hand, have a huge closet full of stained, cheap and stuff that I'm emotionally attached to that I don't wear. UGH. I'm inspired.

I guess I am the only one who likes stuff?! Just kidding. You should see the mess I am sitting in right now. The mess being my office. Yikes!

I agree but I do like my 'stuff' too. I think it's pretty extreme to only have 100 things -- but I do need to do some sorting and purging for sure.

sorting and purging is very FREEING. definately. But I do think it's sad that some cute man and woman stopped making crepes and wearing fedoras in the intrest of cutting the clutter. Too extreme for me but good idea in general.

i'm checking that out for sure. still, 8 people, that's 800 things-sounds like a lot. I wonder how much we really have. scary i'm sure.

Wow, I have so many bins of "stuff" that I am just waiting for the day that I will "need" it again. I need to do a purge in the worst way!

I really need all my stuff. All.of.it.

Can't part with it. Don't want to.

Besides, when I die my kids will have to go through all of it and fight over it. Almost like payback.

I too have wondered about this sometimes. Never to the extreme of 100 things - i mean i'm nearing 100 pairs of shoes - let's GET REAL! But I agree with the concept.

Thanks for the post!
ps - My parents live in Temecula now but I was born in Chula "Juana" Vista. I think you did too right?
