a little lipstick really can go a long way

"Hand me my purse, darling. A girl can't read this sort of thing without her lipstick." Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly in Breakfast at Tiffany's

I just thought that was a cute quote as I flipped through my Real Simple magazine this morning while I waited for Hunter to finish his breakfast and practice his piano. In fact, now is a good part of my day. Hunter is awake, finishing his stuff, but the rest of the house is quiet for about 5 more minutes. AHHHH.

I was grocery shopping yesterday (Hope was at home napping while Hayley read a book, I'm making her come with me to book club tonight so she had some reading to do) and I saw this women. I couldn't tell exactly how old she was because everything on her seemed to be fake. But she was buying some little kid stuff and her arms (the only spot left untouched)...weren't too wrinkly. I KEPT seeing her in Wal-mart. We were on the same shopping plan or something. But anyway, she had the fake (bad) blond hair, when I think her natural was quite a bit darker, BIG plump lips that had about a gallon of collagen (or whatever they put in there)in each lip (quite frankly I'm not sure how she was able to talk normally), then, of course, her fake boobs (which I'm not knocking the fake boobs, just the "amount" of fakeness and how much of the fakeness was oozing out of her tiny little shirt, and then of course whatever other plastic surgery she has had to give herself that "plastic" look. She had that made up look and a pair of shorts that had her little booty hanging out. Do you have the mental image yet?

I though geez! We need to find a happy medium between the frumpy "housewife" look and then...well THAT. I'm all for some cute clothes, a sassy little haircut and some lipstick, but at some point we need to be happy with what God gave us and go with THAT.

heather, i think you've found the happy medium between frumpy housewife and washed up ol' hag. you're 4 kids in and your bod has mine beat by far. (sometimes i want to hurt you) and you're gorgeous!

I agree with you 100%. I saw some of that on the cruise. I guess if you are paying thousands of dollars
for the "look" you go for a very big look. Natural has always been more beautiful in my book.

crazy... those fake kind annoy me. Now, when I see a woman who has worked her butt off to look the way she does, that's another story - then I'm envious.. ;) But there is still typically a boob job in there somewhere.

Right on, Heather! Ditto. Although I would appreciate a little extra boobs and less goo, I would hate to be defined by that...

That is a cute quote, too!!

Totally great comment today, Heather. You're so right -- we need to somehow find an appreciation for what we have and do the best we can with that.

Right on, sister! I am not a fan of the real plastic look either. I had a woman at church we called plastic, fake boobs, hair extensions, nails, tummy tuck, and she wasn't even 30. It was a bit much.

It's so sad because I think plastic surgery typically gives people a weird plastic surgery look. In my opinion people usually look so much better without all of the enhancements. I saw that quote in Real Simple too. Gotta love that magazine!

Nice that you can go shopping without the little helper. sisters are the best. that cake looks yummy too. Maybe I'll make it with lipstick on :) then it will be a sassy, tasty cake.
